Poetry Is A Way of Seeing

Poetry does not necessarily change the world around us.

Sometimes, it changes the way we look at it.

The same rain can be an inconvenience to one person and a memory to another.

A quiet room can feel empty—or peaceful.

A goodbye can be an ending—or the beginning of understanding.

A passing stranger may be forgotten within seconds, while a single sentence spoken years ago can remain with us forever.

The world does not always change.

Our perception of it does.

And perhaps this is where poetry begins.

Not with words, but with attention.

To notice.

To question.

To feel.

To contemplate.

To look at something ordinary and discover that it contains something extraordinary.
